False Ox Botanical Shrubs are concentrated syrups made from fruit, vinegar, sugar, herbs, and spices. 

As long as humans have been making alcohol they have been making vinegar. Alcohol exposed to the air naturally turns into vinegar. The Babylonians, in 5000 BC, were using date palm fruit to make both wine and vinegar. In Egypt, urns from 3000 BC also contained vinegar and there are written accounts of vinegar from China around 1200 BC. 

Using Organic Apple Cider Vinegar to preserve seasonal fruits, berries, herbs and vegetables, many households made delicious shrubs from that vinegar, mixed with water, and often alcohol to create seasonal, local, organic drinks.

Switchel is a natural hydrating drink made from Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, Ginger, and Organic Cane Sugar.

The version of Switchel found in Colonial era North America most likely originated in the Caribbean and soon became a common drink in fields, farms, taverns, and households. Historically referred to as Haymaker's Punch, Swizzle, or Switzel,  Switchel is a healthy and delicious, natural hydrating drink. FALSE OX COCKTAILS! 

 

Cape Cod Mint

To a highball glass, add:
1.5 oz. vodka
2 oz. cranberry juice
2 oz. False Ox Strawberry Mint Shrub
1 oz. club soda

Stir to mix.
Garnish with a mint sprig

Garden Mary

Rim a highball glass with fresh lime and salt & pepper.
Fill with ice and add
1.5 oz. vodka
2 oz. False Ox Celery  Jalapeno Shrub
1 tsp. Dijon mustard
4 oz. tomato juice

Stir to mix.
Garnish with a chili pepper or a celery stalk.

 
 

False Favourite

Rim a rocks glass with fresh lime and pink salt. 
Fill with ice and add:
1.5 oz. gin
2 oz. False Ox Grapefruit Rosemary Shrub
2 oz. club soda

Stir to mix.
Garnish with a rosemary sprig.

Southern Drawl

To a rocks glass filled with ice, add: 
2 oz. bourbon
2 oz. False Ox Raspberry Balsamic Shrub
2 dashes orange bitters

Stir to mix.
Garnish with an orange zest.

Mango-Lime Spritz

Rim a rocks glass with fresh lime and pink salt. 
Fill with ice and add
1.5 oz. gin
2 oz. False Ox
Mango Lime Shrub
2 oz. club soda

Stir to mix.
Garnish with a rosemary sprig.

Celery Jalapeno Gimlet

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add:
1.5 oz. gin
1 oz. False Ox Celery Jalapeno Shrub
0.5 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. lime cordial

Shake sharply and strain into a coupe glass. 
Garnish with a twist of lime.

 
 
 

Raspberry Balsamic Paloma

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add:
1.5 oz. El Jimador Tequila
2 oz. ruby red grapefruit juice
1 oz. False Ox Raspberry Balsamic Shrub

0.5 oz. sour mix
Shake and strain into a rocks glass filled with ice. 
Garnish with a rosemary sprig.

London Swizzle

Fill a highball glass with ice then add:
1 oz. gin
0.5 oz. green Chartreuse
2 oz. False Ox Strawberry-Mint Shrub
5 mint leaves, torn
1-2 oz. tonic water

Stir to mix. 
Garnish with a mint sprig.

 
 
 

Oh Sherrie! (hold on)

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add: 
2 oz. Solera Sherry (medium sweet)
2 oz. False Ox Mango Lime Shrub

Shake and strain into a coupe glass rimmed with fresh lemon and vanilla sugar. 
Garnish with a fresh raspberry.

 

Spiced Passionfruit Crush

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add:
1.5 oz. rum
2 oz. False Ox Mango Lime Shrub
2 oz. passionfruit juice
a dash of Tabasco

Shake and strain over crushed ice. 
Stir to mix. 
Add more crushed ice to top, and garnish with a chili pepper.

 
 
 

Tokyo Martini

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add: 
1 oz. Vodka
0.5 oz. Sake
2 oz. False Ox Beet Ginger Shrub
2 oz. pear juice

Shake sharply and strain into a martini glass and garnish with a pear fan.

 

Beet Margarita

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add: 
1 oz. tequila
1 oz. Cointreau
0.5 oz. fresh lime juice
1 oz. False Ox Beet Ginger Shrub
1 oz. pineapple juice

Shake hard and strain into a rocks glass with ice. 
Garnish with a sprig of thyme.

 
 
 

Harvest Moon

Fill a highball glass with ice and add: 
1 oz. gin
0.5 oz. cherry brandy
2 oz. False Ox Grapefruit Rosemary Shrub
1-2 oz. ginger ale
0.25 tsp. cracked black pepper

Stir to mix and garnish with a cherry.

Colada Shrub

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, add:
1.5 oz. Amber rum
2 oz.  False Ox Mango Lime Shrub
1 oz.  pineapple juice
1 oz. coconut milk (canned). 

Shake and strain into a colada glass filled with ice. 
Sprinkle with fresh ground nutmeg.

 
 
 

False & Stormy

Smack mint and add to rocks glass,
fill with ice and add: 
2 oz Rum

Garnish with lime wheel.
